The Knife is man's oldest tool.  No matter how attractive it is, cutting is its purpose.  It all starts with the steel.

Since the same raw materials are available to everyone, Craftsmanship is what sets those apart.  How it is cut, ground and Heat-Treated is what makes a quality blade.

DROST KNIVES are made with uncompromising quality.  All operations are done by one set of hands.  Starting with the highest grades of specific Alloyed Steels, Mike Drost works, shapes, and surace-grinds each individual blade.  Then blades are rough hollow ground by hand-held operation, and by eye.   Mike does not use any automatic grinders, or jigs in this procedure.

Heat-Treating is also done in shop, that way the quality control is assured.  Blades are heat-treated to very exacting tolerances, double or triple tempered, and cryogenically quenched.  The Rockwell hardness is tested after each procedure on every blade.  Mike has definite opinions about heat-treating, and they are above AISI Manufactures specifications and tolerances.

After heat-treating, blades are surface-ground again, to within .001 inch true, then back to hand-held grinding to the desired finish and thickness to edge.  Final finishs are done either by hand, or Buffers.
